5/8 Friday

Another week down! I hope you guys are doing good. It looks like things are slowly going to start returning to normal. I guess that's ok. I am still not sure if I am ready to go back into the public yet. People, in general, are nasty, and when you add a global pandemic to the mix, well I am not that confident. However, we can't stay inside forever (trust me I have tried!)
Next week in ELA we will be trying something new called Boomwriter. It is a class novel writing project that I thought might be fun to do while we are stuck at home. I will also be trying to schedule a day where we (both ELA classes) can get online together and discuss how it is supposed to work. We can also discuss anything you guys want to talk about. I will let you know the day and time.

1. Free Rice-Fridays just aren't the same without Free Rice. Try to be my new high score of 3 gazillion.

2. Short Story-We have spent this week looking at the short story,  "The Treasure of Lemon Brown". Look back over the story and make sure you have answered all the lettered questions. Then when you have finished with those, answer questions 1-11 found at the end of the story. Your answers should go in your Lemon Brown google doc.

Be sure to explain why you think so and write in complete sentences!

3. Study Island-Work on your Study Island units.

5/7 Thursday

1. Warm-Up-In your Norman Language Arts google doc, answer the following question. Make sure to date your post, fully explain your answer and use complete sentences.

2. Poem of the Day-Here is your new poem. Instead of doing your usual analysis, we are going to do something different. As you read the poem, I want you to focus on what the speaker considers "important". Then in your Lemon Brown Google doc, I want you to write a short essay comparing and contrasting what the speaker in the poem considers important and what the character lemon Brown considers important.
Also in your Google doc, answer the 5 Assessment Questions that accompany the poem.

Every day since the quarantine has begun, Jackson, Mrs. Norman and I take a break and go outside for a long walk. While we are out, I make Jack forget everything else that is going on and just focus on being out. Then we find one thing that is beautiful or awesome. One day it was the top of a Poplar tree swaying in the breeze. Another day it was a bluebird building a nest. If you slow down and pay attention, these things will present themselves to you. I want you guys to take a break every day and go outside and look for something beautiful and amazing. When you find it, you will know. If you want to, take a picture and email it to me. If you want to write a poem about it and email it to me. If you want to keep this memory for yourself. Just do it. It will do wonders for your sense of well being!

Not much too exciting happened today. I actually went outside so that was something! What I am hearing from  most of you guys is that being away from school sucks and that you can't wait to come back! I can't believe I am saying this, but I agree! We will get there and when we do it will be awesome! Till we have to start working again when the bell rings...

I will start posting them on here to keep us entertained.

They will contain the same content as the blog but will actually be easier to manage. Here are the invitation codes. Once everyone has joined, I will start adding content.

3/25 Wednesday

Good morning. I hope you guys are doing good. The Normans are still hanging in there. Jackson got the new Animal Crossing game, so I may not see him for awhile.
Things actually do seem to be improving in other parts of the world. China has actually begun to reopen their movie theaters! Italy is starting to report a decline in new Coronavirus cases! While the news in America is still grim, maybe end may finally be in sight. For today let's just chillax a little. First up, I am going to share a little bit of my childhood. Yes it's corny and yes it's cheesy, but doggone it, maybe we all need cheesy and corny right about now! It the recently deceased Kenny Rogers performing on the Muppet Show. Maybe it will brighten you day like you guys always brightened mine!

Did you know?????? This sucks...

Well, the hits just keep coming. Not only are we not going to go back to our physical school building till May 15th but it was also announced that the Summer Olympics may be postponed till at least 2021....Ugh

My son is really not having an easy time adjusting to school at home. He is very emotional lately. I think he misses the structure and daily routine of it. I think I agree. I really miss you guys!

3/18 Thursday

WOW...I never thought we would miss school because of a global pandemic, but here we are. Hopefully most of you are able to access this from home. I know this is weird, but until we are able to get back to normal, this is how we are going to have to proceed. Remember, this is only temporary and it will soon be over.

ELA

1. Virus Journal-One thing I want you to do is to begin a daily journal. A good way to deal with the confusion and uncertainty of the times is to write about. In your ELA Google doc., I want you to jot down your feelings on a daily or semi-daily basis. This doesn't have to be super deep or long, but I do want to know what is going on with you guys.  For example, yesterday at Wal-Mart I saw a woman wearing a mask loading her cart with 5 giant bags of dog food. I thought "does she have a lot of dogs, or is she that scared of being quarantined?" Then I had to walk past her, so I excused myself and she just stared at me without saying a word. It was creepy. It was like the act of speaking would have exposed her....

2. Class Novel-I hate hate HATE that I can't keep reading Animal Farm to you. But such is life. Head here to get Chapter 8 and two discussion questions. As always, answer you questions in your Animal Farm Google Doc.

3. LOGOs-Even a Global Pandemic can't keep your old buddy LOGOs away. You will once again be using your LOGOs words to create a Google Slideshow that correctly uses each word in Lesson 15. Following are links with the definitions for the prefixes and the word definitions. Make sure you share your slides. Sharing is caring! (Unless it's coronavirus...don't share that)
