2. Weekly Vocabulary -- This week we are going to change up things a bit. Watch some of the "S" Vocabulary Videos.
Your assignment is to create a short story using at least 12 of the "S" words correctly. You can add suffixes (review your prefix/suffix worksheet) to the words to make them fit better, but all words used must fit the context of your story. Rewatch some of the videos if necessary to better understand the words. This should be completed on a blank piece of paper and is due on Friday. Remember to underline each vocabulary word in your story.
The temptation with this assignment is to write as short a story as possible. Be careful not to cram too many specific vocabulary words in a few sentences, as context mistakes are likely.

3. Going Green Letter- Have you ever seen the Tonight Show? The host, Jay Leno, is a funny guy. He's also passionate about helping our planet and improving our future.
Check out this post on Leno's Green Garage. Scan through the articles, pictures, and videos. When finished, you will write a letter to Leno (in Google Docs) that comments on some of the interesting stuff he has, inquires about specifics on some of his projects, and ask relevant questions related to the articles.
The more depth your letter has, the better grade you will receive. Title your google doc "Last Name-Leno Letter" and make sure to share it with me.

Ok, so the alligator example above is called ONE SET of sentence expansions. Each set has six sentences. On a piece of paper, I'd like to you create 5 sets of sentence expansions. Have fun with them!

NC Write-When you have finished your Math Benchmark, complete the Grant Wood's "American Gothic": The Story prompt on NC Write. Be sure to follow the instructions. Make as many revisions as you want! When you have finished, complete any other work you need to. Remember to work quietly!

2. Prefixes/Suffixes-In the red Writer's Choice book (they are on the bottom shelf of the book case), read pages 661-664. When you are finished reading, do exercises 4 and 5 on a blank sheet of paper. When you are finished be sure to turn them in.
3. NC Write-Work on your Columbian Exchange NC Write prompt. If you have already submitted, revise and submit again. Our goal is a score of 20.
4. Triangle Trade- Go to the following websites. Read the information they contain about the Triangle Trade. Once you have visited all the websites, create on a blank piece of paper a Triangle Trade fact sheet. Your fact sheet should contain at least 20 facts. Your facts need to be written in complete sentences. Turn in once you have finished. The websites are here, here, and here.
5. The Outsiders-We need to get to page 68 before Friday. Get as much read today as possible. While reading, you need to create 5 Summary Sketches in your Reading Notebooks.

1. Warm-Up-In your Norman Language Arts google doc, answer the following question. Make sure to date your post, fully explain your answer, and use complete sentences.
2. Weekly Vocabulary-You will use all 8 of your ten Weekly Vocabulary Words to create a Vocabulary Word Box. We have done one of these already this year, so this should not be difficult. Here is what your box should look like:

4. NC Write-You will be answering the NC Write prompt titled "Columbian Exchange."
5. Study Island-Tomorrow we are starting our ELA Benchmark. Before then, let's use Study Island to review what we have covered so far this year.
6. Independent Reading-Once you have finished your Study Island assignment, you need to read your library book. In your Reading Notebook, you need to complete 4 Summary Sketches.
7. Social Studies Warm-Up-Answer the following question in your Norman Social Studies Google doc.
What was one thing you learned about the Columbian Exchange that surprised you? Why did it do so? Remember to fully explain your answers.

9. Global Trade Market-We will spend this week looking at the history of global trade. Your weekly project should help you learn more about this subject. Here is your assignment:
The class will soon be visited by King Jeremy the First from the country of Normania. He is looking to enter into trade with another continent or empire. You and your group will research your assigned continent or empire and use props to represent the items which your area can trade. Your goal is to entice King Jeremy the First into entering into a trading partnership with your group. Every member of the group will speak, and the trade props must be explained. (Example-What is Silk, and why would King Jeremy need it?) Groups must have and present at least 4 trade items. King Jeremy likes to ask questions so BE PREPARED!

Sadly, Halloween is over......
1. Free Rice-It's Friday so that means that it is time to play some Free Rice. Play only vocabulary.

3. Prefix and Suffix pretest-Before we start our next unit, let's see what we already know.
4. Class Novel-Let's catch up with Pony and the gang.
5. NC Write-Take this time to perfect those spooky stories. Make sure to fix the errors found by NC Write. Let's see if anyone can get a score of 20!
6. Independent Reading-Get out your library books and get reading.
