4/30 Tuesday

1. Warm-Up-Answer the following question:

How did World War 1 end? What countries would you say won? What countries would you say lost? Explain your answers.

2. Russian Revolution- Go to the following links and read the articles about the Russian Revolution. While you are reading you are going to play the role of a reporter and on a sheet of paper answer the following questions. Your links are here and here.

3. Great Depression-Today we are going to briefly look at the Great Depression.

4. Great Depression Weekly Project-For this assignment, you are going to try your best to get into the minds of the people who experienced the Great Depression. You will pick 5 pictures from the following 8. They are all pictures of people from the Great Depression. Once you have picked your 5 pictures, you are to create a Google doc entitled "Great Depression Project." You are going to write (at least 7 sentences each) 5 stories based on the pictures you have chosen. Each story needs to be written in First Person. You can create your story in any way that you see fit but they must be tied to the Great Depression and be school appropriate. In your doc, paste your photo and then write your story. Do this for each picture and story.  Here is the link for the pictures.

2. Battles of World War 1-Today we are going to be looking at some of the more important battles of World War 1.

3. Trench Warfare-Now is your chance to get a taste of some World War 1 action! Follow the link and then follow the directions. Make sure to note which weapon combination you used to successfully complete each mission.

1. Social Studies Class Assignment- It's time we learned more about one of Austria-Hungary and Germany's allies from World War 1. Grab one of the blue books (Eastern World Social Studies book) from the bookcase. Read pages 200-203. This section is all about the country of Turkey. This region was once known as the Ottoman Empire. Once you have finished reading, on a sheet of paper create 5 multiple choice questions based on the information you have just learned. Be sure to include the answers.

2. When you have finished with number 1, you can work on either your WW1 map assignment (if you were not here yesterday ask a classmate or the sub to explain), your Most Dangerous Game map, or both.

2. Important People of World War 1-Today we are going to look at some of the more important figures from World War 1.

3. WW1 Timeline-Your timelines are due now.

4. Weekly Project-You are to create a project which will show the impact WW1 had on the countries who fought. On a sheet of paper, you are to do the following:

1. Draw a picture of the country

2. Draw and color the country's map

3. Include the following information about each country

   

a. What side they fought on

b. Leader of country      

c. Number of soldiers killed

d.  Number of civilians killed

e.  Impact of war/Treaty of Versailles

1. Warm-up-Answer the following question:

Now that we are nearing the end of our story, how have you enjoyed The Most Dangerous Game? Is it something that Mr. Norman should teach to other students in the future? Tell me if you liked it or not and be sure to provide your reasons. Also, before we finish, make at least 3 predictions of what you think might happen in the story.

2. Most Dangerous Game-Let's see how Rainsford gets out of this one!

3. Most Dangerous Game Map Activity-Here is the link to the story. You are going to create a map of Ship-Trap Island. Your map should be creative, colorful, and contain important places from the story. You must also reference the spot in the story where your places are mentioned.

4. Independent Reading-Let's read! In your Class Notebook, create 5 Pop-up Questions.

Book Journal Question-Out of all the books you have read this school year, which one has been your favorite? Be sure to explain why. Also, which book has been your least favorite? Provide reasons.

5. Social Studies Warm-Up-Answer the following question:

What are some ways in which World War 1 might have been avoided? Be sure to provide details.

6. WW1 Causes-Today we are going to take a deeper look at the causes of World War 1.

1. Warm-Up-Free Rice time!

2. Weekly Vocabulary-When you finish with Number 1, keep working on your 3-2-1s.

3. Plot-Today we are going to take a look at the various elements of plot.

4. Most Dangerous Game-It sounds like Rainsford has a tough time ahead of him. Let's see what happens next.

5. Independent Reading-It's Friday! Grab your books and get reading. In your class notebook you will be doing alphabet reading. Your letters are S, N, and T.

6. Book Journal- Answer the following question in your Book Journal:

It's time to pick your favorite and least favorite characters from your book. With 1 being your favorite and 4 being your least favorite, rank the characters. Be sure to explain why you ranked the characters the way you did.

7. Social Studies Warm-Up-Answer the following question:

Who was Franz Ferdinand and what impact did he have on World War 1?

8. World War 1 Causes-Watch the videos below. While watching them, be sure to take notes on the WW1 causes they discuss. When you finish, go to your Norman's Stuff doc and review the videos. Which did you like best? Which one had the best information?

1. Warm-Up-Read the following article. Once you have finished, create 3 EOG style questions based on the information in the article. Put these questions in your Norman's Stuff doc.
When you finish your questions, you can work on your 3-2-1s.

2. Question Rewording-We are going to take a few minutes to practice question rewording skills.

1. Warm-Up Creative Writing-

Look at the following picture. Write a quick short story about the picture. Be creative and try to include some of your weekly vocabulary words.
 

2. Weekly Vocabulary-Work on those 3x2x1s.

3. Weekly Homework-You are to answer both of the following prompts. You have until Friday to complete your essays. You will write them on a sheet of paper. Each prompt should be properly written and contain at least 12 sentences each.

Essay Prompts

1. Rainsford and the General both love to hunt for sport. Do you think it is fair to hunt and kill an animal just for the fun of it or do you think hunting should only be done for survival? Provide lots of reasons and examples to support your answer.

2. How do you think the Industrial Revolution might have contributed to the to the start of World War 1? Provide reasons why you think the way you do.

4. Plot-Today we are going to look at plot and each of its various elements.

5. Social Studies Warm-Up- Answer the following question:

Which Industrial Revolution invention do you think was the most important? Why do you think so? Provide reasons.

1. Warm-Up- Answer the following question.

We are getting closer and closer to the end of the school year. What are you looking forward to the most over Summer Break? What are your plans? Are you going on a family vacation? Give me lots of good details.

2. Weekly Vocabulary-Lets get to know our new Vocabulary Words.

3. Most Dangerous Game-We did not get a chance to read our class book on Friday, so let's really get deep into it today!

4. Most Dangerous Game Activity-You are going to write 3 journal entries, one each from the viewpoint of the following characters.
1. Rainsford
2. General Zaroff
3. Ivan
These journal entire should summarize what has happened before and give each characters' opinion on the events that have occurred so far.
Each journal entry should be at least 7 sentences long.

5. Independent Reading-Grab your books and lets get reading!

6. Book Journal-Answer the following question in your book journal.

What is the one thing about your book that you really do not like? Why do you not like it? How would you change it?

7. Social Studies Warm-Up-Answer the following question:

“What might the impact of the Industrial Revolution be on the entire world?”
8. Imperialism-Today we are going to look at the Industrial Revolution's impact on the world.
9. Imperialism-Watch the following video. While watching the video you will be answering some questions about imperialism.
10. Create-a-Timeline-We are getting closer and closer to covering World War 1. Today you are going to start researching the causes and events that led to the great war. You are going to pick 12 World War 1 causes and events and place them on a timeline you will be creating using TimeToast. We will discuss as a class how to sign up and following is a tutorial video.
