9/30 Tuesday

1. Warm-Up-Creative Writing: Look at the following picture. In your Language Arts Google doc., write a quick short story about the picture. Be creative and try to include some of your weekly vocabulary words. Remember, you are writing a story based on the picture NOT describing the picture!

5. Reformation Reporter-A reporter's main job is to get answers to questions. You are going to spend the next few days researching the Reformation. You will then answer, on a blank sheet of paper, the following questions:

WHAT-What was the Reformation? Be sure to fully explain your answers.

WHO-Pick 4 important people from the Reformation. Tell me who they were and why they were important to the Reformation.

WHEN-Pick and explain at least 3 important dates from the Reformation. Explain why the dates you chose are important to the Reformation.

HOW-Explain in detail how the Reformation started. What happened before that led to this movement?

WHY-Why did this movement happen? Why was it so important to the world? Why is it still important?

8. Reformation Reporter-A reporter's main job is to get answers to questions. You are going to spend the next few days researching the Reformation. You will then answer, on a blank sheet of paper, the following questions:

WHAT-What was the Reformation? Be sure to fully explain your answers.

WHO-Pick 4 important people from the Reformation. Tell me who they were and why they were important to the Reformation.

WHEN-Pick and explain at least 3 important dates from the Reformation. Explain why the dates you chose are important to the Reformation.

HOW-Explain in detail how the Reformation started. What happened before that led to this movement?

WHY-Why did this movement happen? Why was it so important to the world? Why is it still important?

WHERE-What were some of the important locations of the Reformation?


9. REMEDIATION ASSIGNMENT-Nuclear Disaster -- Take a few minutes and read about the accidents at nuclear power plants in Japan in 2010. In an email addressed to me please type out a list of 8 facts that you learned. Please use complete sentences and include the most important facts you found.
Also, leave your thoughts about nuclear energy. Nuclear is a relatively clean energy source (and doesn't contribute to global warming), but also has major drawbacks. Is it safe enough? Do you feel safe that a nuclear power plant is in Raleigh and Wilmington? We haven't had any major accidents here, but who knows about the future?

GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS???????????????????



1. Game Time-Let's get the day started with some games. You can play either Eight Letter Game or Wordsearch.

Also play our new game, Knoword. Here is the website's definition:

Knoword is a game of quick thinking, smart decisions and great words. When you begin, you will be given one randomly generated dictionary definition along with the first letter of its corresponding word. You must fill in the rest of the word to experience a gain in points and an added time bonus. You will start off with one minute before the game ends, and every word is an opportunity to extend your time. If you're ever stuck on a word, just hit the skip button and a new puzzle will present itself.

If you're able to string together correct answers, you will notice yourWord streak counter increasing. You can accumulate badges and additional points by achieving certain amounts of consecutively correct words... How far can you get?



So, I'd like you try out KNOWORD and write up a review and email it to me! Did you like it? Was it easy or hard?

When finished with the article, read the questions below and answer on the same sheet as you have your facts on. Use your facts and details from the article to completely answer the questions. Answers must be in complete sentences.

The RiverTowne Players is starting a Young Actors Academy to their Rising Stars Youh Program? The Academy will offerrr an after-school class that will Train children ages 5 to 15 in musical theater. for three hours each Monday — 5 to 8 p.m. — there will be instruction in acting, dance and voice. The first semester begins Monday, with classes continuing through Decemdber 10. a showcase performance is set for the end of the semester, which will include all the participants of the academy? The fee is $25 per, weekly, session. The classes will be held in RiverTowne’s performing arts home, the historic Masonic Theatre on hancock Street.

7. 9/11 K.W.L.-I will pass out and explain our K.W.L. charts.

8. Homework-Obviously, you guys are too young to remember the tragic events of 9/11, but there are definitely people in your life that will. 5. Wordle-It's time again for us to express ourselves. Today we will be using word clouds to create a gallery of words all about you. Many web sites offer word clouds and let's try Wordle first.
Step 1: Go to Wordle

Step 2: Create your word cloud by typing in words that describe you. Do not use your last name anywhere in your Wordle. Be expressive! Press "GO" when finished.

Step 3: Save your wordle to the public gallery, but do not put your last name in the description.

Step 4: Copy (control-c) the embed code at the bottom of the page

Step 5: Paste (control-v) the embed code into an email you will send to me. Your email should have the title "Norman-Wordle"



6 NC Write-Let's see if we can finally get going with NC Write! You will be completing the writing prompt titled "Choose a Special Power." Your essay should be at least 150 words long.

9/2 Tuesday

Welcome back! I hope you guys had a great long weekend. It's time to get back to work! Before we get started, we are going to take a few minutes to create some google docs.

1. Game Time-Very few of you had a chance to play the Eight Letter Game  on Friday. Take a few minutes and see how high a score you can get!

2. Weekly Vocabulary-Click on the link for your Weekly Vocabulary . Take a few minutes to look at your words and get familiar with them.

3. Weekly Vocabulary Assignment-For this week's assignment, you will use your words to create a Vocabulary 3-2-1.
This means that on a piece of paper you will:

Write each word 3 times
Write each  definition 2 times
Write 1 sentence using each of your vocab words (meaning you will be writing 10 sentences)


4. Noun/Verb Review-Let's see how well you guys remember what we talked about last week.

5. Verb Worksheet-Practice makes perfect!

6. Independent Reading-Grab your books and get reading.

7. Social Studies Warm-Up-In your Social Studies Google doc, answer the following question:

Do you think that it is important to learn about the continents and the oceans? Be sure to fully explain your answer.

8. Review-Let's review what we have covered so far...

9. Weekly Assignment- You will be placed in groups and given the name of a continent. You will then use your netbooks to find the information needed to answer the following questions. The assignment will be due on Friday. You should put all of your info. into Google presentation.

1. What is the name of your continent?
2. How many countries are in your continent?
3. What is the most populous country in your continent?
4. What is the least populous country in your continent?
5. What is the weather like in your continent?
6. What are some of the different languages spoken in your continent?
7. What are some of the landmarks found in your continent?
8. What are some of your continent's natural resources?
9. How big is your continent compared to the other continents?
10.What are some of the rivers, mountains, deserts, and other geographical features found in your continent?
