1.What can you infer about Salva’s village from this excerpt: “A dozen or so people stood by the side of the road. Salva scanned their faces. There was no one from his family. He recognized a few people--a woman with a baby, two men, a teenage girl--but no one he knew well.” (pages 9-10)

2A Find a simile on page 8, and write it below:

1. Warm-Up-Creative Writing- Look at the following picture. Write a quick short story about the picture. Be creative! The mood for your story should be exciting.







2. Scope-Now it's time to read your second article this is also about an invasive species.

3. Class Novel-We are going to be starting our new class novel soon! First, you are to create and share a new Google doc titled: First Name Last name-Long Walk to Water.

Below is the cover to our new class book. A cover is a very good way to try and determine what a book may be about. Using the cover below, make a list in your new Google doc of images and details you see on the cover. What do these images tell you about our book. Finally, based on the images and details on the cover, make predictions about our class book.
