12/19 Friday

1. Christmas Origins-I often say that the best way to fully appreciate something is to know its origin. With that in mind, you are to use the internet to research and find the origins of the following things associated with Christmas.

-Santa Claus
-Christmas Trees
-Gift giving
-Santa's Elves
-Christmas lights

Once you have researched the above things, create a Google presentation that explains in detail the origins of each the items listed above. Make sure your presentation has correct grammar, pictures, and good use of design and color.

1.Fitbrains- Head back over to FitBrains and see what new games are available. A fit brain is a happy brain!

2. Article Review-Read the following article . After reading, write a quick review of the article in your Language Arts Google doc. Your review should answer the following questions:
-What was the topic of the article?

-What was the article's main idea? Supporting details?

-What was one thing about the article that you found fascinating? Explain your answer.

-If you were to rename this article, what name would you choose and why?

3. Gift of the Magi-Now that we have finished our story, head over to your ELA Google doc and answer the following questions:

a. How would the story have been different if the setting had been changed? Think of a different setting and explain what would have been different.

b. Was the ending of the story a happy or sad ending? Make sure to fully explain your answers.

c. If you could write a next chapter to the story, what would it be?

6. Holiday Infographic - Take a look at the following infographics. You will create a 9 question pop quiz based on the infographics. You must have 3 questions from each infographic. You will also need an answer key.

1. Warm-Up-Creative Writing- Look at the following picture. Write a quick short story about the picture. Be creative and try to include some of your weekly vocabulary words.


2. 5x5x5-Keep working on your weekly vocabulary assignment. Here again are the directions.

*Directions: Write each word and its definition five times. When finished, create a paragraph with at least five sentences that uses all five words correctly. Make sure to underline the vocabulary words in your created paragraph.

3. Setting-Let's review our setting worksheet.

4. Gift of The Magi-You will finish our Christmas short story, The Gift of the Magi.

2. Weekly Vocabulary-This week, our Vocabulary Words come from our short story. Take some time to get to know these words.

3. 5x5x5-Since there are only 5 words this week, it makes perfect sense to do a 5x5x5. Here again are the directions.

As you can see, I am out sick today! This does not mean that I expect anything less from you. I have instructed the sub to write down the names of any student who does not perform as expected. If your name is written down, expect consequences!

1. Article Review-Read the following article . After reading, write a quick review of the article in your Language Arts Google doc. Your review should answer the following questions:

2. Weekly Vocabulary-Keep working on your 3-2-1s. Work on these for 20 minutes. 

3. Antonyms-Let's see how well we know antonyms. Grab a worksheet from the sub. When you have finished, turn in to the sub. 

4. Red Literature Book-Today we are starting our new story. You are to read the story "Strong Men Weep" on pages 26-31. When you finish reading, answer all 10 questions on page 32 in your Textbook Google doc.

SOCIAL STUDIES

5. Social Studies Warm-Up-Answer the following question in your Norman Social Studies Google doc. Be sure to fully explain your answers.

What was one thing that you learned about your food (that you did your presentation on) that you found interesting, cool, weird, or confusing?

8. Triangle Trade- Go to the following website and wait for my instructions.

9. Triangle Trade Facts- Go to the following websites. Read the information they contain about the Triangle Trade. Once you have visited all the websites, create on a blank piece of paper a Triangle Trade fact sheet. Your fact sheet should contain at least 20 facts. Your facts need to be written in complete sentences. Turn in once you have finished. The websites are here, here, and here

Enrichment-Head over to Readtheory and get to reading. I will be checking from home to make sure you are working. The sub will have your passwords.

1. Warm-Up-Creative Writing- Look at the following picture. Write a quick short story about the picture. Be creative and try to include some of your weekly vocabulary words



2. Weekly Vocabulary-This week we are going to mix it up a bit. Here is a link to Quizlet's 100 words every middle school student should know. Go to the site and pick 10 words (make sure they are not ones we have used before.) This will be your vocabulary list for the week.

3. Weekly Vocabulary 3-2-1-Use all of your words to complete your 3-2-1 assignment. Here are the instructions:
Write each word 3 times
Write each word and definition 2 times
Write 1 sentence using each of your vocab words (make sure you underline the vocabulary word)

4. Red Literature-Grab a copy of the Red Literature book and await further instructions.

5. Setting-If you have not done so, head over to Learning Farm and keep working til you get a medal on Setting. 

6. FreeRead-If you have your medal get out your book and read quietly.

7. Channel One-We are going to watch Channel One news. Afterwards, you are to got to your Social Studies google doc and answer the following questions about the newscast. Remember to use complete sentences, and fully explain your answers.
